“Thank you for getting me to walk again.”

Mrs. Barbara Merkle came to Berlin with a decline in functional mobility, activity tolerance and activities of daily living after a lengthy hospital stay secondary to deconditioning. She selected Berlin to come for her rehabilitation. The initial assessment was completed by Occupational and Physical therapy and revealed that Mrs. Merkle required one person assistance with standing, transfers, and functional mobility tasks. She was not able to ambulate but short distances and presented as a high fall risk.

The therapy team developed a personalized program for Mrs. Merkle based on her personal goals. Mrs. Merkle worked very hard to regain her strength and endurance. After a few weeks, Barbara was standing and transferring with no assistance from staff and was demonstrating good activity tolerance. She was able to regain her previous level of functional mobility and returned home with her supportive husband and dog Daisy.
